Recipe of Fruit Custard Trifle

Serves 3-4
  • Sponge cake
  • Vanilla custard Powder
  • Jelly- Raspberry or strawberry flavor (as it looks colorful).
  • Any fruits of your choice.
  • Little sugar syrup or sugar water
  • A glass container or tall glass for serving individually.
For the custard layer
  • Milk - 2 1/2 cups
  • Custard powder - 2 tbsp
  • Sugar - 4 tbsp
  1. Boil milk, mix custard powder with 2-3 tbsp of warm milk and make a paste.
  2. Simmer and add the custard paste to the boiling milk slowly stirring continuously. After it becomes a little thick, remove from flame.
  3. Cool it and keep it in the refrigerator.
For the fruits layer
  1. Pineapple, apple, mangoes (ripe but firm), strawberry, seedless grapes or any fruits of your choice but avoid using bananas and oranges as I personally feel that it makes the trifle soggy.
  2.  Cut the fruits into small pieces and keep it aside. You can keep apples in a cup of water to which a few drops of lemon juice is added to prevent discoloration.
For jelly layer

Prepare the jelly as per instructions on the pack. After it cools, set it in a tray and refrigerate it but do not put this in freezer.

Now for Arranging Trifle
  1. Now take a wide glass bowl or a tall glass.
  2. Cut the cake horizontally and arrange the bottom layer with pieces of cake and sprinkle sugar syrup on it. Press it well .
  3. Now pour the cold custard on top of it and spread it evenly.
  4. Then spread the chopped fruits.
  5. Then slice jelly and cover the fruits layer.
  6. Now sprinkle little custard and arrange the cake pieces.
  7. Now again pour the cold custard on top of it.
  8. Like this repeat the process for 3 layers. Then top it with with cherries or whipped cream.
  9. Keep it in the refrigerator for 5-6 hours to set (not in the freezer) and enjoy delicious and yummy Trifle
